We get this question almost every single day, and honestly — we completely understand why it’s confusing. Ever since the smartphone arrived in the mid-2000s, manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, Motorola, and Google have been constantly refining their devices, tweaking features, upgrading components, and rolling out new models at a pace that’s hard to keep up with. That’s great news for consumers who love having the latest and greatest. But it also means that over the years, there are now quite literally thousands of distinct model names and numbers out there in the world.

And for us as repair technicians? We need to know them all.

Here’s why that matters for you: when you call or visit any of our All Mobile Matters locations serving Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, or Tucson, AZ, one of the very first things we’re going to ask is: “What’s the model of your device?” It’s not a trick question — it’s a necessary one. Every model, even within the same brand and generation, can use slightly different internal components. Without knowing your exact model, we simply can’t confirm which parts are needed, what the repair will cost, or whether we have everything in stock to help you that same day.

The good news? Finding your model number is easier than you might think. Here are a few reliable ways to track it down.

How to Find Your Device’s Model Number

1. Check Your Original Retail Box

If you still have the box your phone, tablet, or laptop came in, this is the fastest method. The model number is printed right on the barcode label — usually on the side or bottom of the box. It takes about five seconds and gives you the complete, exact model string you need.

2. Log Into Your Carrier’s Account Portal

Your wireless carrier — whether that’s AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, or another provider — keeps a record of every device on your account. Log into your account online or through the carrier’s app, navigate to your device details, and you’ll find the make, model, and often the storage capacity listed right there.

3. Check Your Device Settings

If your screen is still working, this is probably the quickest option:

  • iPhone / iPad: Go to Settings → General → About. Your model name and model number are both listed here.
  • Android (Samsung, Google, Motorola, etc.): Go to Settings → About Phone → Status or Device Information. The exact path varies slightly by brand, but it’s always somewhere in the About section.
  • Laptop: For Windows, go to Settings → System → About. For Mac, click the Apple menu → About This Mac.

4. Use an Online IMEI Lookup Tool

Don’t have the box, can’t get to your carrier, and the screen isn’t cooperating? No problem. Head to imei.info — it’s a free tool that lets you enter your device’s IMEI number and instantly returns the make, model, and other device details. All you need is your IMEI, which we’ll show you how to find right below.

How to Find Your IMEI Number

Your IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique 15-digit number assigned to your specific device. Think of it as your phone’s fingerprint — no two devices share the same one. Here’s how to find it:

  1. Check the back of your device. On many older phones and some current models, the IMEI is printed directly on the back panel or under the battery cover.
  2. Eject your SIM card tray. On certain devices, the IMEI is etched on the tray itself or printed inside the SIM card slot.
  3. Check your device settings. Search for “IMEI” in your Settings app — it usually shows up under About Phone or General.
  4. Dial *#06# from your keypad. This is our favorite trick, and it works on virtually every phone regardless of brand or operating system. Just open your dial pad, type *#06#, and hit send — your IMEI number will pop up on screen immediately without even placing a call.
