Most Commonly Needed Apple iPhone 15 Repairs
Cost, Timeframe, and What Actually Happens During the Process
If you own an iPhone 15 and you’re reading this, there’s a decent chance something has already gone wrong — or you’re just smart enough to want to know what you’re getting into before it does. Either way, you’re in the right place. We’ve been repairing iPhones since the very beginning at All Mobile Matters, and the iPhone 15 is one we know well. Let me walk you through everything.
A Quick Look at the iPhone 15
The iPhone 15 launched on September 22, 2023, and it was a meaningful step forward from the 14. Apple introduced four headline upgrades with this model:
- Dynamic Island — The pill-shaped cutout that replaced the old notch. It looks cleaner and actually does things now, which is a win.
- 48MP Rear Camera — A significant jump in resolution that finally brought the standard model up to Pro-level photography.
- USB-C Charging — Long overdue, but here at last. One cable to rule them all.
- A16 Bionic Processor — The fastest chip Apple had produced at the time of launch, borrowed from the iPhone 14 Pro lineup.
It’s a great phone. But no phone is indestructible — and the 15 has some specific characteristics that affect both how likely you are to need a repair and how involved that repair is when you do.
Our Repairability Score: 5 out of 10
Over the years, we’ve developed an internal repairability scale — 1 being a nightmare we’d rather not touch, 10 being something you could probably handle yourself on a Sunday afternoon. The iPhone 15 lands at a 5 out of 10.
The repair process itself is fairly straightforward, and parts are readily available. The complication is Apple’s component serialization. Most internal parts in the iPhone 15 are paired to the device’s logic board, which means swapping them in doesn’t always guarantee they’ll function perfectly — and in some cases, you’ll be greeted with an annoying pop-up message even after a successful repair. It’s one of Apple’s more frustrating design decisions from a consumer standpoint, and it’s something we navigate carefully every day.
On top of that, the display is glued to the mid-frame and sits inside it, which means any screen removal carries at least a small amount of risk — even for experienced technicians. We take our time on these for a reason.
Our Durability Score: 5.5 out of 10
We also track how well devices hold up over time under real-world use. The iPhone 15 scores a 5.5 out of 10 for durability — and here’s why.
Apple uses Ceramic Shield glass on the front, which genuinely improves drop resistance. But Ceramic Shield is also a softer material, which means it scratches more easily than you might expect from a premium phone. The back is glass too, which doubles your exposure — front drop, back drop, same result. And those rear camera lenses? They protrude significantly on this model, which makes them one of the first things to make contact when the phone hits a surface at the wrong angle.
All of that is to say: at some point, there’s a reasonable chance you’ll need a repair. When that day comes, here’s exactly what you can expect from us.
iPhone 15 Screen Repair
The Process
Every repair we do at All Mobile Matters starts the same way: we create a record for your device, run a full pretest to identify everything that needs attention (and confirm what doesn’t), give you an estimated completion time, and then get to work. For a deeper look at how that intake process works, check out our post How Does the Device Repair Process Work at All Mobile Matters.
For the iPhone 15 screen specifically, here’s what happens once the repair begins:
- We place the device face-down on a specialized heating pad that softens the display adhesive. The temperature is calibrated carefully — just enough to loosen the glue without putting any heat stress on the surrounding components.
- We remove the two bottom security screws and slowly pry the OLED panel away from the frame, taking care to protect the delicate flex cables running to the display and proximity sensor.
- The proximity sensor assembly gets transferred to the new OLED panel. This is the most demanding part of the job — the cable is both heavily glued and very small. It requires patience and a steady hand every single time.
- On most devices, we disconnect the battery before touching any other connectors. On the iPhone 15, the battery lives beneath the back glass, making it inaccessible during a screen repair. Since the 15 uses an OLED panel (not an LCD), there’s no backlight at risk during reconnection — but disconnecting the battery before working on connectors is still best practice whenever possible, and we maintain that habit across the board.
- We reconnect the display and digitizer connector along with the proximity flex, then reinstall the securing plate and screws.
- Before snapping anything closed, we perform a soft reset and fully test the display and touch response. Once everything checks out, we apply a fresh adhesive seal, seat the display module into the frame, and reinstall the bottom security screws.
We keep iPhone 15 screens in stock at all times. Most screen repairs are completed in about an hour — a little less if you book an appointment in advance. Current pricing can be found on our iPhone repair page.
iPhone 15 Battery Replacement
The Process
The iPhone 15 battery lives under the back glass — which means we need to remove the back before we can get to it. Here’s how that unfolds:
- We start by removing the bottom security screws, then place the device on the heating pad to soften the adhesive holding the back glass. The back is both glued and clipped in, so we heat it first, then work the appropriate areas to release the glue and disengage the clips. Throughout this step we’re protecting the wireless charging pad, which is glued to the back glass and tethered to the motherboard by a delicate flex cable.
- With the back removed, we take out the battery securing screw and plate, then disconnect the battery connector.
- We pull the pre-installed adhesive pull tabs to release the battery from its seat and lift it out. We’re always careful here — even a depleted lithium battery can release gas or, in rare cases, ignite if punctured or bent. We handle and dispose of old batteries properly every time.
- The new battery goes in, gets connected and secured, and the plate and screws go back into place.
- We test the new battery for power-on and charging function, then reinstall the back glass and bottom security screws.
We stock iPhone 15 batteries at all times. Battery replacements typically take under an hour. Pricing is available on our iPhone repair page.
iPhone 15 Back Glass Repair
The Process
Unlike the fully-laminated back glass on older Pro models (which require our laser removal process), the iPhone 15 uses clips and standard adhesive — which makes the removal more accessible, though still requiring care and experience. Here’s how it goes:
- Heat pad first, as always. Once the adhesive is soft, we remove the security screws and work the back free — releasing both the glue and the clips while being cautious around the wireless charging pad and its flex connection.
- The most involved part: transferring the wireless charging pad, rear microphone, and flash assembly over to the new back glass. These components are glued in and need to be moved cleanly and carefully to function properly on the replacement part.
- Once transferred, we reconnect the wireless charging pad flex, reinstall the securing plate and screws, and test all functionality — wireless charging, microphone, flash, cameras.
- We finish with a liquid adhesive seal around the perimeter to ensure the back stays put and that we’ve restored as much water resistance as the design allows.
We stock iPhone 15 back glass in multiple colors. Back glass repairs are typically completed in under two hours. Pricing is on our iPhone repair page.
