Most Commonly Needed Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus Repairs — Cost, Timeframe, and What Actually Happens During the Process

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus and you’re reading this, one of two things is probably true: either something has already gone wrong, or you’re the kind of person who likes to know what they’re getting into before it does. Either way, you’re in the right place. I’ve been repairing Samsung devices at All Mobile Matters for a long time, and the Galaxy S20 Plus is a phone that still comes through our doors regularly — and honestly, that doesn’t surprise me. When Samsung released the S20 lineup in 2020, the Plus was arguably the sweet spot of the series: bigger screen, bigger battery, and a quad-camera system — all without the S20 Ultra’s astronomical price tag. People chose it thoughtfully, and they’ve held onto it. We see these every week across our shops in Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and Tucson. Let me walk you through everything.

A Quick Look at the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus launched alongside the standard S20 and S20 Ultra on March 6, 2020. It was Samsung’s mid-tier flagship for that generation — and it was genuinely excellent. Here’s what defines this phone and how those design choices translate to the repair bench six years later:

  • Aluminum Frame with Gorilla Glass 6 Front and Back — The S20 Plus uses the same sturdy aluminum chassis as the standard S20, sandwiched between Gorilla Glass 6 on both sides. The frame handles everyday stress well, but the glass on both surfaces remains fully exposed and fully breakable. We see cracked S20 Plus backs and screens regularly in our shops.
  • 6.7-Inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display — Half an inch larger than the standard S20’s 6.2-inch panel, and one of the best displays Samsung made in 2020. The 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and curved edges made this screen a genuine pleasure to use. That same curved design, however, creates a specific vulnerability at the corners and edges that flat-screen phones don’t have — and it’s something we account for on every screen repair.
  • 4,500mAh Battery — A meaningful step up from the standard S20’s 4,000mAh cell, and one of the reasons people chose the Plus model in the first place. Six years of charge cycles and Arizona heat later, though, that battery has taken real wear. Battery degradation on S20 Plus units is one of the most common reasons we see this phone in our shops today.
  • Snapdragon 865 (US Models) — The same flagship chip as the standard S20, paired with 12GB of RAM. It’s aged remarkably well and still handles everyday tasks in 2026 without complaint. The longevity of the S20 Plus is in no small part due to how capable this processor remains.
  • Quad Rear Camera System — A 12MP main sensor, 64MP telephoto, 12MP ultra-wide, and a VGA time-of-flight depth sensor — the last of which is the one feature that distinguishes the Plus camera array from the standard S20. This four-lens arrangement sits in the same vertical module in the upper left corner, and like all protruding camera assemblies, it’s vulnerable in corner and face-down drops.
  • mmWave 5G Support — The S20 Plus supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G on compatible carriers, which the standard S20 did not. Not a repair consideration, but worth noting as a reminder of why this was the more future-proof choice at the time.
  • Ultrasonic In-Display Fingerprint Sensor — Embedded in the lower display, this sensor is paired to the display assembly and the logic board. Screen replacement without proper calibration can result in inconsistent or non-functional fingerprint recognition. It’s something we handle correctly at every All Mobile Matters location — every time.
  • IP68 Water Resistance — Rated for 30 minutes at 1.5 meters of fresh water. Worth knowing: any repair that involves opening the device affects the factory IP rating. We always reseal with fresh adhesive, but the original certification no longer applies after disassembly. We’re always upfront about this with customers.
  • Heavy Adhesive Construction Throughout — Like its siblings in the S20 lineup, the S20 Plus uses substantial adhesive on the back glass, battery, and display. There are no pull tabs on the battery. Every repair on this phone starts with careful, methodical heat application — and patience is the single most important thing we bring to the bench on this device.

It was the right phone for a lot of people in 2020, and for most of those people it still is in 2026. But six years of daily use means six years of wear — and when something finally gives, here’s exactly what happens in our shops.

Our Repairability Score: 3.5 out of 10

We’ve built our own internal repairability scale over the years — 1 means it’s a device we approach with real apprehension, 10 means a careful person could probably tackle it at home on a Sunday afternoon. The Galaxy S20 Plus earns a 3.5 out of 10 from us, and that number is consistent with what iFixit found when they tore down the S20 Plus — they gave the S20 lineup a 3 out of 10, citing excessive adhesive throughout, a battery with no pull tabs, and a display mounted directly to the frame without the additional support layer that would make removal safer.

That last point is particularly important, and I want to be clear about it. On the S20 Plus, the OLED panel is attached to the frame without a support bracket — which means that during screen removal, even small amounts of lateral flex can damage the panel itself. We’ve done enough of these repairs to know exactly how careful you have to be, and we are. But it’s why this isn’t a quick job, and why we take the time we take on it.

The larger 6.7-inch display on the S20 Plus also means more surface area to manage during removal compared to the standard S20 — more adhesive perimeter, more real estate to work around, and more opportunity for things to go sideways if you rush. We don’t rush.

On the positive side: standard Phillips screws throughout, and once you’re past the adhesive challenges, the internal components are organized and individually replaceable. Samsung’s component pairing is still present — the in-display fingerprint sensor and other paired components will require proper calibration after replacement — and we handle that process correctly at every All Mobile Matters location.

Our Durability Score: 5.5 out of 10

We track durability separately from repairability because the two stories are different. The Galaxy S20 Plus earns a 5.5 out of 10 for durability — and six years of real-world performance tells us a lot more than a drop test chart.

The aluminum frame is solid. The Gorilla Glass 6 on the front holds up reasonably well against minor drops, and the IP68 rating has genuinely saved more than a few S20 Plus units from water damage over the years. The larger footprint of the Plus, however, means it’s harder to get a secure grip on — and in our experience, bigger phones hit the ground more often simply because they’re harder to hold securely. The curved display edges, beautiful as they are, remain a consistent source of damage in our shops. Corner drops that a flat-screen phone might shrug off often result in cracked edge glass on the S20 Plus.

Battery health is the other major durability story at this point in the device’s life. The S20 Plus shipped with a 4,500mAh cell — generous for 2020 — but six years of charge cycles, Arizona summers, and the power demands of 5G connectivity have taken a toll on most of the units we see. If your S20 Plus isn’t making it through a full day anymore, the battery is almost certainly the culprit, and replacement makes a dramatic difference.

Bottom line: if you’ve kept your S20 Plus running for six years, you’ve done something right. When it finally needs attention, here’s exactly what happens at All Mobile Matters.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus Screen Repair in Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler & Tucson

The Process

Every repair at All Mobile Matters follows the same intake routine: we log your device, run a full pretest to document what’s working and flag anything that isn’t, confirm the cost with you upfront, and give you an honest time estimate before we touch a thing. If you’ve never brought a device in before, our post on How Does the Device Repair Process Work at All Mobile Matters is worth a read first.

For the Galaxy S20 Plus screen specifically, here’s what happens on the bench once we start:

  1. SIM tray out, bottom screws removed. The phone goes on our heating pad to soften the display adhesive around the perimeter. The S20 Plus has more perimeter to manage than the standard S20 — we heat in sections, working methodically around the full 6.7-inch frame. The curved edges get the most attention here, as they require more controlled, localized heat than the flat portions of the panel.
  2. We apply a suction handle and begin working the display free using marked picks — tools sized and marked specifically so we never go deeper than safe depth at any point along the frame. The S20 Plus OLED panel sits directly against the frame with no support bracket, which means lateral flex during this step is a direct risk to the panel. We work with upward tension only, never prying sideways, and we take as long as this step needs.
  3. With the display free, we disconnect the display connector and carefully transfer the in-display fingerprint sensor components to the replacement panel. We run a full calibration process — touch response, fingerprint recognition, display quality, brightness uniformity — before reassembling anything. If the fingerprint sensor doesn’t perform exactly as expected, we address it before closing up.
  4. Fresh adhesive goes on around the full frame perimeter. The new display seats into position, we apply even clamping pressure while the adhesive cures, and all screws reinstall. Full function check before the phone goes back in your hand.

We keep Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus screens in stock at our locations serving Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and Tucson. Given the larger display and the care the curved panel construction requires, most S20 Plus screen repairs take 90 minutes to two hours. Current pricing is on our Samsung repair page, and we confirm the number with you before we start. Not sure which screen grade is right for your situation? Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus Battery Replacement in Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler & Tucson

The Process

Battery replacement on the Galaxy S20 Plus shares the same fundamental challenges as the standard S20 — screen-first access, heavy adhesive, and no pull tabs — but with the added complexity of a larger device with more surface area to manage at every step. Here’s exactly how it unfolds:

  1. SIM tray out, bottom screws removed. The phone goes on the heating pad to soften the display adhesive — because just like the standard S20, the screen has to come off before we can reach anything inside the S20 Plus. We treat this step with the same care and deliberation as a dedicated screen repair. Damaging the display on the way to the battery turns a routine job into a significantly more expensive one.
  2. With the screen safely set aside, we remove the mid-frame screws and work through the interconnect cables above the battery. The S20 Plus has a similar double-decker motherboard arrangement to the standard S20, requiring careful navigation around stacked components before the battery is accessible.
  3. We apply isopropyl alcohol carefully along all four edges of the battery to begin dissolving the adhesive bond. The S20 Plus has a 4,500mAh cell — slightly larger than the standard S20’s — which means slightly more adhesive surface area to work through. We don’t rush this step under any circumstances. A battery that gets pried before the adhesive has fully released risks bending or puncturing, and even a cell at zero percent charge still contains stored energy. A damaged lithium battery can off-gas or ignite. Every battery we remove gets handled with that in mind, and every old battery is disposed of through proper recycling — never the trash.
  4. With the adhesive fully released, the battery lifts free cleanly. The new battery goes in, gets connected, and we test charging and power-on before reassembling anything. Screen reseats with fresh adhesive, all screws reinstall, and we run a full function check — fingerprint sensor, display, cameras, charging — before the phone goes back in your hand.

We stock Galaxy S20 Plus batteries at all of our locations. Given the screen-first architecture and the adhesive battery mount, S20 Plus battery replacements typically take 90 minutes to two hours. Pricing is on our Samsung repair page — confirmed with you before we begin. And if you need both a battery and a screen, our bundle pricing makes doing both in one visit meaningfully more affordable than two separate trips.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus Back Glass Repair in Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler & Tucson

The Process

Back glass repair on the S20 Plus is one of the jobs that separates a patient, experienced technician from someone who’s just going through the motions. The Gorilla Glass 6 back is bonded to the aluminum frame with heavy adhesive around the full perimeter, and the larger size of the S20 Plus means there’s more adhesive to release — and more opportunity for the glass to crack during removal if the process is rushed. We’ve replaced enough S20 Plus back panels to have deep respect for this particular job.

  1. Phone on the heating pad. We heat the back glass in sections, working methodically around the full perimeter of the 6.7-inch chassis. The corners receive the most attention — the curve where glass meets frame is the most structurally vulnerable point during separation, and rushing any section risks cracking the panel mid-removal.
  2. We use thin, flexible tools along the adhesive bond — not rigid picks that could introduce flex into the panel at the wrong moment. We move in small increments, re-warming any section that begins to cool and stiffen before it’s fully released. The larger footprint of the S20 Plus means this process takes longer than on the standard S20, and we budget time accordingly.
  3. Once the back glass is fully free, we inspect the entire frame perimeter and remove all adhesive residue. Any residue left behind creates gaps in the seal on the new glass, reducing water resistance and allowing dust and debris to work their way inside over time.
  4. Replacement back glass goes on with fresh adhesive. We apply even clamping pressure around the full perimeter and allow proper cure time before returning the phone. Full function check — cameras, wireless charging, display, fingerprint sensor — before it leaves our hands.

We stock Galaxy S20 Plus back glass at our locations. Back glass repairs are typically completed in under two hours. Pricing is on our Samsung repair page.
