The Galaxy S22 Ultra is where Samsung finally merged its two flagship lines into one — a built-in S Pen silo, a curved 6.8-inch display, and a quad-camera system that had been Note-exclusive territory until this phone. If you’ve read our Galaxy S22 Plus repair guide or our standard Galaxy S22 guide, the Ultra shares the same glass-back construction and internal assembly as its siblings — it just adds a curved panel, a bigger battery, and a stylus mechanism on top.
We still see plenty of Galaxy S22 Ultra phones come through our shops across Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and Tucson. If yours has a cracked screen, a battery that’s stopped making it through the day, or a shattered back panel, here’s exactly what to expect when you bring it to All Mobile Matters.
The Phone at a Glance
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra launched on February 25, 2022, alongside the standard S22 and S22 Plus, starting at $1,199. Here’s the quick-reference breakdown:
| Display | 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X, adaptive 1–120Hz (LTPO), curved edges, Quad HD+ (1440 x 3088) |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (US) / Exynos 2200 (International) |
| Battery | 5,000mAh — 45W fast charge, 15W wireless, reverse wireless |
| Back Material | Gorilla Glass Victus+ — curved glass, not flat |
| Frame | Armor Aluminum |
| Front Glass | Gorilla Glass Victus+ |
| Fingerprint Sensor | Ultrasonic in-display |
| Water Resistance | IP68 (30 min at 1.5m) |
| Cameras | 108MP main + 12MP ultra-wide + 10MP telephoto (3x) + 10MP periscope telephoto (10x) |
| S Pen | Built-in silo — the first S-series phone with onboard stylus storage |
| Storage / RAM | 128GB/8GB, 256GB/12GB, 512GB/12GB, or 1TB/12GB |
That built-in S Pen silo is the headline feature — it’s the same stylus support the S21 Ultra offered, but for the first time it lives inside the phone instead of being sold as a separate accessory. If your S Pen tip has worn down or gone missing, we keep replacement tips in stock and can swap one in during any visit, no appointment needed for that part alone.
The curved display and curved glass back are the other story here, and they’re what separate the Ultra from its flatter siblings on the bench. Where the standard S22 and S22 Plus both moved to flat panels, the Ultra kept the curved-edge design going back through the S21 Ultra and the Note line before it. If you’re weighing this against the mid-size model, our Galaxy S22 Plus guide is worth a look for comparison, and if you’re coming from the previous generation, our Galaxy S21 Ultra guide covers a lot of the same curved-glass repair considerations.
How We Rate This Phone
Repairability: 3/10
iFixit tore down both the standard S22 and the S22 Ultra and awarded them the same 3/10. The battery is glued down with no pull tabs, same as every Samsung flagship we work on, and the curved glass back and curved display both add handling complexity that the flatter S22 and S22 Plus simply don’t have. The built-in S Pen silo is one more mechanism to route around carefully during disassembly. Standard Phillips screws throughout remain about the only point in this phone’s favor.
Durability: 4/10
Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back resists scratches well, and the Armor Aluminum frame holds up over years of daily use. But curved glass on both sides is inherently more prone to cracking on impact than the flat panels on the standard S22 and S22 Plus — a drop that those phones would shrug off can spiderweb the Ultra’s screen or back glass at the curve. The larger periscope camera housing adds real risk in face-down drops, a scenario we see constantly in our Arizona shops where phones spend a lot of time on hot patio tables and car consoles. Add in years of charge cycles and Arizona summer heat, and battery degradation is the other issue we see constantly on these phones. If your S22 Ultra is struggling to hold a charge, the battery is almost always why.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Screen Repair in Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler & Tucson
Typical timeframe: 75–100 minutes | Parts: In stock at all locations | Pricing: Samsung repair page
Every repair at All Mobile Matters starts the same way: we log the device, run a full pretest to document what’s working and flag anything that isn’t, confirm the cost with you upfront, and give you an honest time estimate before anything gets opened. If you want the full rundown of that process, our post on How Does the Device Repair Process Work at All Mobile Matters is worth a read.
For the S22 Ultra screen specifically, here’s what happens on the bench:
- SIM tray out, bottom screws removed. The phone goes on our heating pad, and because the display curves at the edges, we work slower and more methodically than we would on a flat panel like the S22 Plus — curved glass is far less forgiving of uneven heat or rushed prying.
- We apply a suction handle and work the display free in small, deliberate sections, following the curve rather than fighting it, then carefully disconnect and set the display aside.
- The in-display ultrasonic fingerprint components transfer to the new panel, followed by a full calibration sequence — touch response, fingerprint recognition, display uniformity, brightness, and edge-touch accuracy along the curved sides. Skipping calibration on a curved panel is how you end up with a screen that misreads touches near the edges, so we don’t skip it.
- Fresh adhesive goes around the full curved perimeter, the replacement display seats into position, and we apply even clamping pressure while it cures. All screws reinstall, and we run a full function check — including S Pen pairing and Bluetooth features — before the phone goes back in your hand.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Battery Replacement in Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler & Tucson
Typical timeframe: 90–120 minutes | Parts: In stock at all locations | Pricing: Samsung repair page
Battery replacement on the S22 Ultra is where the curved glass back really changes the job compared to the S22 Plus. Here’s the full sequence, and where we slow down on purpose:
- SIM tray out, bottom screws removed. The curved glass back goes on the heating pad. Unlike a flat panel, which flexes safely as adhesive softens, curved Gorilla Glass Victus+ can crack under uneven heat or an impatient pry, so we heat it evenly and in stages.
- Once the back releases cleanly, mid-frame screws come out and the interconnect cables above the battery get disconnected. The larger periscope camera module leaves slightly less working room than on the Plus, so we take it slow through this section, and the S Pen silo assembly gets protected throughout.
- Isopropyl alcohol goes along all four edges of the battery to begin dissolving that adhesive bond. We apply it, and then we wait — we don’t pry, we don’t force, and we don’t rush to the next step until the adhesive has released on its own terms. A punctured or deformed lithium battery, even at zero charge, is a genuine fire risk. Every battery we handle gets treated accordingly, and every old cell is recycled through our proper disposal process, never the trash.
- Once the adhesive releases, the 5,000mAh cell lifts free cleanly. The new battery connects and secures, and we test charging and power-on before closing anything up.
- The curved glass back reseats with fresh adhesive along the full perimeter, screws go back in, and we run a full function check — charging, display, fingerprint sensor, S Pen detection, and all four rear cameras — before you get the phone back.
If your screen and battery both need attention, ask about our bundle pricing. Doing both in one visit is meaningfully more affordable than two separate trips.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Back Glass Repair in Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler & Tucson
Typical timeframe: Under 100 minutes | Parts: In stock at all locations | Pricing: Samsung repair page
A face-down drop or a bump on a hard corner is often all it takes to spiderweb the S22 Ultra’s back glass, and the raised ridge around the camera bump’s edge makes this panel more resistant to coming off cleanly than the Plus’s flatter back.
- Phone on the heating pad to soften the perimeter adhesive around the shattered back glass, working in stages around the curve. Broken curved glass with weakened structural integrity is more prone to shifting or cracking further mid-removal than an intact flat panel, so we go slower here than we would on the standard S22 or Plus.
- With the back fully released, we clean every trace of old adhesive and any remaining glass fragments from the frame, protecting the wireless charging coil and its flex cable along the way. Leftover residue creates an uneven bond on the new panel — and on a curved surface, that unevenness shows up as visible gaps where moisture and dust can work their way inside over time. We don’t cut this step short.
- The replacement back panel installs with fresh adhesive applied evenly around the full curved perimeter. Consistent clamping pressure and proper cure time matter here just as much as they do on the screen side.
- Full function check — cameras, wireless charging, display, fingerprint sensor, S Pen detection — before the device leaves our hands.
